A careful examination of the teachings and revelations attributed to Prophet Muhammad reveals significant points of tension with the message of the gospel. The Qur’an and its followers present Muhammad as the final prophet, commissioned to call humanity back to the worship of the one true God, Allah. Yet the revelations he claimed to receive—said to come from the same God revealed in the biblical scriptures—stand in direct contradiction to the message and testimony of those scriptures.
Quran 5:75; The Messiah, son of Mary, was only a messenger… and his mother was a woman of truth.”
This verse seeks to rid Jesus Christ of His essence as God. This verse also stands in opposition to the prophecies laid out by the OT prophets about the divine aspect of the Messiah as God.
Quran 5:72; They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary.’”
This verse, which is similar to the previous verse, seeks to rid Christ of His essence as God.
Quran 4:171; The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah… So do not say ‘Three.’”
This verse also seeks to rid Christ of His essence as God and refute the doctrine of the Trinity.
Quran 5:73; They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘Allah is the third of three.’”
This verse also seeks to reject the doctrine of the Trinity.
Quran 19:35; It is not befitting for Allah to take a son.”
This verse reveals a direct denial of the Sonship of Christ.
Quran 9:30; The Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allah.’ That is their statement… Allah’s curse be on them.”
This verseexplicitly reveals the rejection of Jesus as the Son of God.
Quran 112:1–4; “He begets not, nor is He begotten.”
Islam uses this to deny that God has a Son.
The Old Testament provides explicit criteria for discerning true and false prophets. These criteria include:
• continuity with prior revelation
• fidelity to Yahweh’s identity and covenant
• accuracy in conveying God’s word
When Muhammad’s teachings are examined through this biblical lens, several points of discontinuity emerge. His revelations introduce theological claims that contradict the established prophetic tradition, particularly concerning the nature of God, the identity of Jesus, and the means of salvation. These contradictions place Muhammad outside the trajectory of biblical prophetic revelation.
THE DILEMMA
The plausible answer from Muslims, will be that the writers or compilers of the OT corrupted the message. However, this claim will put a dent in Allah’s ability to preserve his word. Muslims believe that Allah’s revelation is fully consistent, culminating in the Qur’an as the final and preserved message. The Quran also explicitly reveals that Allah’s words cannot be changed or altered.
Quran 6:115 The Word of your Lord has been perfected in truth and justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Quran 18:27 Recite what has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. None can change His Words, nor can you find any refuge besides Him.”
Allah is captured giving credence to the Gospel in Quran 5:47
Quran 5:47 So let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. And those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are ˹truly˺ the rebellious.
If Allah’s words can be altered by man, then Allah contradicted himself and told a lie. Allah is not credible and should not be trusted.
HOW IS YAHWEH DIFFERENT FROM ALLAH?
Unlike Allah, Yahweh; the covenant God of Israel reveals Himself as one whose message remains consistent. Though the Old Testament prophets never met each other, their writings display a remarkable coherence. Yahweh’s revelation is progressive yet, former revelation does not contradict the latter revelation.
Isaiah never met Jeremiah, whose ministry began about a century later. Yet both prophets proclaimed the promise of a new covenant and restoration in Isaiah 55:3 and Jeremiah 31:31–33.
Isaiah 55:3; Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”
Jeremiah 31:31-33; “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah… I will put my law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
This demonstrates that the prophets were inspired by the same Spirit, the Holy Spirit. Any message that deviates from this consistent revelation does not originate from the Spirit of God who inspired them. Therefore, Muhammad’s message cannot be regarded as having been inspired by the Spirit of God or by one of His angels.
The teachings and revelations attributed to Muhammad stand in clear contradiction to the message of the Old Testament prophets. The prophets did not simply call humanity to worship an undefined “one God”; rather, they proclaimed and revealed Yahweh, the covenant God of Israel, whose identity, character, and redemptive purposes are specific and unmistakable. This God is not the deity described in Islam. When Muhammad’s message is evaluated by the biblical standard used to discern true and false prophets, it becomes evident that his teachings do not align with the prophetic revelation of Scripture. On this basis, he does not meet the criteria of a true prophet of God and is therefore categorized as a false prophet within the biblical framework.
